Orange-crowned Warbler

Vermivora celata
August 25 2009, in my garden, probably on migration.

Stokes: "..,celata means concealed. It refers to the orange crown patch, which is almost always hidden under the olive head feathers,..."

  1. That is a female Yellow Warbler. While an Orange-crowned is similar, it has a dark dusky-grey line through the eye. Also your bird has the pale yellowish-pink feet of a Yellow Warbler. An Orange-crowned has black feet and legs. Thought you'd like to know.
